The event raised $2600 for Operation Breakthrough.
On September 6, 2014, the Eve of the Chinese Moon Festival, Jasmine Dance Group hosted its second benefit dinner at the Indian Creek Church for Operation Breakthrough. The event turned out to be a great success, and resulted in $2,600 raised for Operation Breakthrough to benefit the unfortunate children in the Kansas metro area. Operation Breakthrough is an early education child care and social services facility in Missouri serving over 400 children daily from the urban core. The mission of Operation Breakthrough is to help children who are living in poverty develop to their fullest potential by providing them a safe, loving and educational environment. Jasmine feels proud of being a part of their effort in helping out the unfortunate children. Since 2013, Jasmine Youth Giving Heart Program has raised $4900 for Operation Breakthrough.
The benefit dinner was chaired by Cindy Wang, youth director of Jasmine’s Giving Heart Program, with assistance from Jasmine’s youth members April Ma, Elaine Zhu and Mulan Jiang. Many youth members and parents volunteered in making this event possible, from setting up the event area, serving the food, to bringing performances to the guests, as well as cleaning up the area after the benefit event.
The event hosted by Jasmine’s Giving Heart Program received tremendous sponsorship and support from different organizations, including the Jasmine Board, Operation Breakthrough, Joy Wok, Leyue, etc. The event also received generous donations from individuals and families.
Since the foundation of Jasmine Dance Group in 2008, Jasmine has extended its footage to reach out to the local communities, and better defined its purpose of being a small but meaningful organization. Jasmine not only plays a big role in transferring the great Chinese culture to the American-born Chinese kids for them to better understand their heritage, Jasmine also provides a great platform to help these kids to give back to their communities. Jasmine will continue to benefit our communities by going along with its mission statement: Share the Chinese culture through dance performances; and build friendship through the community services.
