While we were unable to gather in person as per usual due to COVID-19, Jasmine hosted a virtual Zoom celebration for our graduating seniors on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at 11am.
Jennifer He (Blue Valley Northwest)- Swarthmore College (Environmental Science)
Aleena Li (Blue Valley Northwest)- Cornell University (Fine Art)
Megan Lu (Blue Valley Northwest)- St. Olaf College (Studio Art)
Annie Wang (Blue Valley High School) - Southern Methodist University
Serena Xiao (Blue Valley Northwest) - University of Southern California (Accounting)
All of our seniors this year have been dedicated Jasmine members for many years and while we are sad to see them go, we are excited for the opportunities that await them in this next chapter of their lives. Per Jasmine’s tradition, a gift was prepared for each senior - this year, it was a personalized frame of various dance performances each senior has taken part in.
Per Jennifer, Jasmine has “been a way to keep in touch with my culture as an American-born Chinese” and to “explore a part of my identity that I could not have done by myself without any guidance.” Megan shared the same sentiment, echoing that while she started with Jasmine when she was very young and then left, she decided to come back "because [she] wasn't doing anything to connect to being Asian" and that she is "glad to have these memories to look back to and have those shared experiences with everyone."
From everyone at Jasmine, thank you for letting us be a part of your journey. We are honored to have provided and to continue to provide this platform for all of our youth members and wish you the best in your future endeavors!
