2024-2025 Class Policies & Procedures
Our policies ensure a quality experience for all dancers and their families.

Attendance

Regular attendance in class is very important to their peers and our teaching staff. As a member of the team, it is a commitment to ensure your timely attendance and attendance at all scheduled classes, rehearsals and performances. Not only do absences impact the routines we create, it also impacts the social and confidence-building principals we work hard to foster in each age group.

Missing classes and/or practices is highly discouraged, but understood within reason. We understand that things happen, but we do not want to be unfair to the rest of the team. If for any reason you have to miss a class, rehearsal or performance, please notify the instructor promptly.

Students are expected to arrive and leave classes, scheduled rehearsals, and performances on time.

Jasmine Chinese Dance Group observes typical holidays (which will be communicated in each session’s class calendar). Class cancellations due to inclement weather will be communicated promptly and via WeChat.

Behavior
Jasmine Chinese Dance Group promotes kindness, leadership, discipline and teamwork.  To create an excellent dance environment, students and parents will adhere to the standards set forth in the policies.

We expect our students to behave properly while in class. They must be respectful of their teacher and peers at all times.  Should a student become disruptive in class, the Teacher/Executive Director has the right to remove him/her from class. The student will be allowed back into class at the Teacher/Director’s discretion. In the rare case of a parent or student showing disrespect to any parent, staff member, or student, a meeting will be called immediately and dismissal may be considered at the discretion of the Executive Director.

We do not tolerate any form of disrespect from any student or parent at Jasmine. We reserve the right to have individuals removed for being disrespectful, rude, threatening or creating conflict. This policy ensures that ALL students have an equal chance to participate in a highly motivated and positive environment.

Dismissal Policy: The studio reserves the right to cancel the enrollment of a child for the following reasons:

  • Non-payment or excessive late payment of fees

  • Not observing the rules of the studio

  • Child has special needs which we cannot adequately meet with our current staffing patterns

  • Physical and/or verbal abuse of staff or children, by a parent or child

*No refunds will be issued in the instance of dismissal.

Communication

WeChat is our main source of communication. It is the responsibility of each parent / student to regularly check their WeChat for studio updates and details. If you are not receiving messages from us, please double check you have been added to the group chat and/or verify with us that we have the correct account information on file.

Conflict of Interest and Commitment
A conflict of interest (actual, potential, or perceived) exists when the interests or concerns of an Individual may be seen as competing with the interests or concerns of Jasmine Chinese Dance Group.

Any dancer enrolled in Jasmine Chinese Dance Group classes may not take on any paid / unpaid / volunteer or short-term / long-term, teaching positions, Board positions, or employment with a competing dance organization.

Additionally, though Jasmine members are not required to enroll in classes, it is still a conflict of interest to retain membership at Jasmine yet hold a teaching position and/or Board position at a competing organization.

By training at Jasmine, being a Jasmine member, and/or being a Jasmine affiliate (i.e., parent, relative, or Board member), you agree to not hold such employment or a Board position at a competing dance organization.

Dress Code

All dancers must come to class in the proper dance attire as follows:

  • Solid colored black leotard with shorts / short skirt

  • Pink ballet tights (optional)

  • Leather or canvas ballet shoes

Hair must be pulled back off the face and in a bun.

General
It may be necessary for instructors to place hands on the student for proper placement and correction of body alignment, choreography and instructional purposes as well as spotting skills & body assessment. Please let the Executive Director know if you have any issues with this.

Any questions or complaints must go through the Executive Director. Personal meetings with the studio director can happily be arranged via email.

The Executive Director reserves the right to change teachers or timetables when necessary at any time throughout the year.

Intellectual Property
Choreography, logo, studio name, costuming and studio policies remain the intellectual property of Jasmine Chinese Dance Group and may not be reproduced or sold by any students, parents or staff without permission of the President.

It is prohibited to reuse without or permission and/or profit financially for any production or activity related to Jasmine Chinese Dance Group.

Lost & Found
Jasmine Chinese Dance Group is not responsible for lost or stolen articles. Please do not wear or bring valuables to dance class.

Illness & Injury
Illness Policy:
Any contagious condition (fever, fever blister/cold sore, stomach bugs, lice etc.) requires that students be symptom free without medication for 24 hours before returning to class.
Tuition is not reduced in the event of illness or injury except in special circumstances.

COVID / Flu Policy:
If a student has tested positive for COVID or the flu, they may not return to the studio until symptom and fever free for 24 hours without medication.

If a student has been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID or the flu (including someone in their household), please contact the Executive Director and instructor before attending class so we can decide if the student should attend or wait.

Injuries:
If the student is injured and not allowed to dance for an extended period of time, please inform the Executive Director ASAP. We will need to work with you on a plan so the dancer does not fall behind and can still participate in class in a safe way. Please do not stop attending class without talking with us.

Observers:
Adults and siblings must remain in the waiting area during class. Parents can observe inside class during designated observation events only, typically the last class of a session (Watch Day).

Studio Etiquette:
Students are asked to behave accordingly while in the waiting area as there are usually classes going on. No playing or running in the waiting area or around the classroom. We ask that parents who are waiting to pick up students please also be mindful of speaking volume and siblings if another class is going on.

No food, gum or drinks are allowed in the waiting or class area. Water is permitted only in closed drinking containers.

Thank you!
